Carbon Management
Carbon Management consists of measurement of carbon footprint, Monitor and report carbon emissions and Mitigate carbon emissions through performance tracking of reduction targets and improved energy efficiency.
It primarily consists of following subsectors:
1 CDM Consulting / services CDM means Clean Development mechanism. Consulting encompasses assisting companies/organization on climate change-related projects through the entire realm of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), from the identification of emission reduction potentials to the delivery of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), and on to emission trading schemes.
2 Carbon Finance/Trading/Investments Carbon finance/investment explores the financial implications and opportunities of living in a carbon-restricted world, a world in which emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) carry a price. Carbon Trading a system that allows a company or country that reduces its carbon-dioxide emissions below a target level to sell the extra reduction as a credit to a company or country that has not met the target level.
3 Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) A certificate that is proof that one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from a renewable energy resource. Once the electricity provider has fed the electricity into the grid, the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) they received can then be sold on the open market as a commodity
4 Energy Saving Certificates (ESC ) Energy savings certificates (ESC s) are tradable instruments that represent saving of a defined amount of energy use. These are also called white certifcates and are tradable. Companies can use the certificate for their own target compliance or can be sold to (other) parties who cannot meet their targets
5 CCS and Carbon sequestration carbon capture and sequestration aka CCS is a means to reduce contribution of fossil fuel emissions to global warming. The process is based on capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from large sources, such as fossil fuel power plants, and storing it in such a way that it does not enter the atmosphere.
